Srinagar, March 21 (KNO) : People on Thursday took to streets, demanding exemplary punishment for those who allegedly killed Rizwan in custody. The call for the protests was given by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL). According to KNO correspondent, the family of Rizwan Asad Pandit protested in Awantipora demanding Justice for their son. They were joined by a large number of people and Sikh community members who declined to accept media reports suggesting he had tried to escape from prison. "His body bore extreme torture marks and his legs had cut marks. How can a person in such conditions try to escape? It's a lie. He was killed,” his family accused. Traders in old city marched on roads near Jamia Masjid protesting against 'highhandedness of NIA and custodial killing of Rizwan'. Rizwan was an academician and his family is associated with recently banned Jamat e Islami. Later in the day Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) carried out a rally to protest against ‘custodial killing’. Scores of NC leaders headed by its provincial president, Nasir Aslam Wani marched from party headquarters here towards TRC here amid sloganeering against the death of youth in custody. “Though such killings have taken place in the past but now, the era has changed and it is unacceptable to people of Kashmir as we have moved far much ahead from the previous scenario,” he said. He said arresting and killing people in custody won’t be tolerated by the people of Kashmir.(KNO)
